MYANMAR ELECTIONS-WILL THE MILITARY GIVE UP THEIR POWER?

Last week, Myanmar had their elections and it was the National League for Democracy party, led by former political prisoner and life long fighter of democracy Aung San Suu Kyi that won the majority of the seats, upsetting the military regime. Based on reports the, Aung San Suu Kyi party has more than 390 seats in both houses of parliament, giving her party absolute majority needed to rule. Being that Myanmar has been under military rule for decades, and in every election where they did not receive enough votes to have the majority, the military failed to give up the power.

“As of now, she has more than 390 seats in both houses of the parliament, giving her party an absolute majority and repeating the results of the previously held elections that were nullified more than two decades ago”.

So, the questions is will the military transition the power the National League Democracy that soundly won the elections? It is past time the military give up their power and let the people live in a democracy that is for the people and by the people.
