Saturday April 30th, was President Obama last White House Correspondents dinner and it was an epic dinner. President Obama, in his last White House Correspondents dinner delivered a magnificent performance that had the audience and commentators laughing, perhaps the highlights were the jabs about the media, the Donald and Ted Cruz. There were a lot of one-liners about the media and a few reporters such as the joke on Jake Tapper, “Jake Tapper left journalism to join CNN”. “Investigative journalism is about resources, autonomy and chasing down the truth and holding the powerful accountable, that’s a fantasy film since Star Wars”. For some time, the news has failed at chasing down the truth, we now have news that is misleading, highly inaccurate and completely uninformative, which is not great for a democratic society. Additionally, President Obama included First Lady Michelle Obama in his jokes, stating “it was her who jumped the White House fence, it’s only 9 more months settle down baby”.

“Despite all this, despite the churn, in my final year, my approval ratings keep going up, the last time I was this high, I was deciding on a major”. I must say, I spit out my drink at this joke, there were a few friends of mine that were high deciding on their major, I just had no direction and chose political science. Making jokes about the GOP candidates and the nomination process at Reince Preibus (RNC Chairman) garnered a few laughs, however, the Ted Cruz joke was awesome, “Ted had hard week, he went to Indiana stood in a basketball court and called the basketball hoop a ring, but sure I am the foreign one”. As you remember, the right-wing nut jobs made a big deal about President Obama Kenya decent, claiming that he is not a citizen although he was born in Hawaii, the 50th state in our union. Moving on to Donald Trump, the frontrunner for the GOP nomination (only god knows how this could be), President Obama says “Is this dinner to tacky for the Donald; a room full of reporters, lights and cameras he says no”. It is hard to believe the Donald turned down being in the spotlight, with a room full of reporters and cameras.
Needless to say, President Obama delivered the jokes, his performance was better than some comedians, (perhaps that will be our POTUS next job). In President Obama final White House Correspondent dinner, his final words, “I only have two words left say, Obama Out” and the mic drop was the highlight of the White House Correspondents dinner. Whoever is the next president, will have some big comedic shoes to fill. Link to the White House Correspondents Dinner.
