OREGON AUTOMATICALLY REGISTERS CITIZENS TO VOTE

In the past 5 years there have been 395 voting laws passed making it harder for people to register to vote or just to vote. In the 2012 elections, there were 19 voting laws passed restricting the right to vote and in 2013 the Supreme Court removed section 5 of the voting rights act, that can allow states to pass voting laws without their approval. Section 5 of the Voting Rights act was design for southern states that prohibited black people from voting; this past week new sworn in Governor of Oregon Kate Brown has signed into law her own bill she drafted as Secretary of State to automatically register people to vote. This a genius idea that every state should follow; Oregon is using information from the DMV and other state databases on its citizens to automatically register them to vote, they have a 21 day opt out period, which I do not see any citizen opting from voting. After the opt out period the citizen will be mailed a ballot to vote, Oregon is the only state so far that votes by mail and is very successful. Besides this being a genius idea, it is a smart approach that will help register hundreds-thousands of eligible voters and it is re-inventing archaic voting registration strategies that are not effective as they used to be.
