Nebraska Repeals Death Penalty
Nebraska unicameral legislature repeals the death penalty. NPR illustrates a decline in support of the death penalty, that shows its down to 60% currently.
This repealing of the death penalty is both good and bad; it’s good because it shows the human capacity that we have as people to not take another humans life after the wrong doings they have done; the bad side is that it will cost tax payers more to keep prisoners in jail and as we know prisons are over populated.
With the repealing of the death penalty in Nebraska, a question that comes to my mind is does is this a move by the PIC (prison industrial complex)? Instead of putting to death these prisoners, they can be kept alive, and the P.I.C. will have free labor. Another question, the U.S. is the most incarcerated country, if there is to be any reform on the prison system is repealing the death penalty a good place to start?
