ANOTHER ONE

Leader, the greatest nation for opportunities, a beacon of the world, a place where anyone and everyone come live and thrives. These are a few of the compliments given to the U.S. over the course of centuries of building and establishing relationships with other nations and heads of state. However, a compliment not given to the U.S., it’s a safe country where people can go to schools, movie theaters, churches or a baseball game and not worry about gun violence. The sad fact is that the U.S. is no longer a leader, a great country for opportunities, a beacon of the world or a place where everyone can thrive. The senseless acts of gun violence that continue to plague our nation is due to the illogical mindset of pale men in our government who fails to enact common sense laws. Gun violence in America has risen ever since Columbine in 1999, and since then our government has done nothing to make sure of the safety for students. Sidebar: notice every time an act of gun violence takes place, state legislatures come up with senseless gun laws to increase having more guns in the public. An example of this is my state of GA, where the Campus Carry bill passed and Gov Nathan Deal signed into law in 2017.

The mass shooting at Marjory Stonemont Douglas High School in Parkland Florida, innocent lives of students were taken because of an ineffective government who has neglected to carry out and pass gun laws to protect we the people. Moreover, the Parkland shooting is an indicator of how schools are completely unsafe and how the NRA (National Racists Association) has successfully used mental illness as a scapegoat for mass shootings. Schools, movie theaters, parks, concerts all have become unsafe places to attend because of the senseless gun violence-a solvable problem. The rate of mass shootings in the U.S. is astounding and it is beyond reprehensible that the greatest Democracy has not done anything about a solvable issue. Since 1999, after Columbine, Congress had many opportunities to carry out stricter and common sense gun laws but did not do anything. As a result of doing nothing, both GOP and Democrats are responsible for the mass shootings and loss of innocent lives.

“Moreover, the Parkland shooting is an indicator of how schools are completely unsafe and how the NRA (National Racists Association) has successfully used mental illness as a scapegoat for mass shootings.”

The NRA (National Racists Association) is a huge part of the problem with the gun violence plaguing the U.S. Over the course of 30 years the NRA has successfully used their extremism and large sums of money to promote a gun agenda that has done nothing but take thousands of innocent lives. Moreover, the NRA is the reason for our nation not having any sensible gun laws. Sidebar:  the 2nd amendment is constantly taken out of context by extremism. The purpose of the 2nd amendment was to arm citizens because our nation did not have a strong military. Our founding fathers wanted to make sure every citizen owned a gun if another nation invaded America. The NRA purposely distorted the other half of the 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms when the extremist views of the right took over and began to push their gun agenda.

“It’s disturbing how one organization is the cause of gun violence and has successfully used mental illness as a scapegoat for them to not take the blame.”

Nevertheless, it’s disturbing how one organization is the cause of gun violence and has successfully used mental illness as a scapegoat to not take the blame.
