What an Election:
Whew Chile, 😳😳 Midterms 2018 is the election where the entire nation was stressed. With the antiquated voter suppression tactics in my state of Georgia with Brian Kemp believing he was going to win the election, to Claire McCaskill losing her seat to Representative-Elect Josh Hawley and to the biggest heartbreak from Beto O’Rourke in Texas. Our nation during this midterm election was on pins and needles and it was an election to witness the youth voter turnout for the drastic increase in gun violence. Additionally, midterms 2018 was the election which illustrated how at odds our nation is with a certain group of people with an antiquated ideology from slavery to civil rights continues to exist in 2018.
“Our nation during this midterm election was on pins and needles awaiting the outcome, and it was an election to witness the youth voter turnout for the drastic increase in gun violence.”
What is agreeable about midterms 2018 is the voter turnout and the central factor of preventing illegitimate President Donald Trump thoughtless agenda, domestic and international. Also, Democrats performing extremely well in state and local races was surprising to witness, however the question to keep in mind, is will Democrats continue this path of being focused on state and local elections where Republicans dominate?
“however, the question is will Democrats continue on this path of being focused on state and local elections where Republicans dominate?”
What to Expect:
America has a divided Congress, with the Democrats controlling the House and Republicans controlling the Senate. With this division will come lots of disagreements on legislation and Donald Trump. Firing Jeff Sessions was to be expected due to the Mueller investigation, but not one day after the elections. In addition, our nation can expect with Congresswoman Maxine Waters overseeing the Finance Committee, Congressman Adam Schiff head of the Intelligence Committee and Congressman Elijah Cummings head of the Oversight committee, Donald Trump personal dealings and political dealings will be investigated.
“Not only that, the Mueller report along with the witnesses will dominate 2019 well into election cycle 2020.”
Sidebar: our nation will have to brace for impact of a toxic divided government and the Mueller investigation that will inform the nation if Donald Trump colluded with Russia to ruin our Democracy. Furthermore, the divided Congress will take up policies our nation is far behind on compared to other nations. A livable wage, health care, environment, regulations on Wall Street, college tuition, these are some of the hotly debated issues Congress will take up when session begins in January of 2019.
“A livable wage, health care, environment, regulations on Wall Street, college tuition, these are some of the many and hotly debated issues our divided Congress will take up when session begins in January of 2019.”
In addition, we can expect our international affairs to be part of the debates. Since the Republicans have been in Congress, Donald Trump thoughtless behavior towards our allies with a trade war and siding with Saudi Arabia on the death of Jamal Khashoggi a journalist, our international affairs and reputation is one which will try to be repaired and closely watched with agreements and the nation position in the international community.
2019:
Over the past 2 and half years of Donald Trump and the Republicans our domestic policies along with international policies and relationships, it will be interesting to see what Congress has in store. Furthermore, with the $779 billion increase in the deficit under the GOP in addition to the $1.5 trillion added to the deficit over a decade due to the terrible budget cuts the GOP rushed through Congress, the financial future of America is on the line in the coming year.
“It’s now or never to move forward in catch up with our allies who have passed our America in progressive policies which benefits the people and the nation.”
So, 2019 in my opinion will be the year where our nation will either progress or remain stagnant fighting the same old issues my generation millennials are tired of fighting. It’s now or never to move forward in catch up with our allies who have passed our America in progressive policies which benefits the people and the nation.
