NO KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE
Friday November 6, President Obama alongside VP Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry, held a press conference on the rejection of the KeyStone XL pipeline. The KeyStone XL pipeline was a contentious issue for all of 2014 and the beginning of 2015, which Congress passed a bill on favoring the KeyStone XL pipeline and President Obama vetoed the bill early in 2015.
“It would not serve the national interest of the U.S. and the pipeline would not make a meaningful long-term contribution to our economy”.
Essentially, the debate of the KeyStone XL pipeline was about the GOP self-interest and their negative decorum of the GOP being obstructionist, which was their ultimate goal throughout President Obama’s presidency. Besides the rejection of the KeyStone XL pipeline being another political blow to the GOP, it was a political win for the U.S. because the pipeline would have not created jobs as the GOP claimed it would, and there is no economic benefit to it.
