We often hear the words good old boys or the good old boys club, but what are the good old boys and why is it a club? Meriam-Webster defines good old boys as “a usually white Southerner who conforms to the values, culture, or behavior of his peers.” This definition describes Roy Moore and many other men who have gotten away with violating young girls and women. The good ole boys club has been around for centuries, it’s made up of men who look like Roy Moore who during an era in America’s history was the only sole authority and governing body of our nation. For too long, Roy Moore, Jerry Sandusky, Dennis Hastert, and many other men are protected by the good ole boys club. This club is a disgrace to our society and it is time for the good ole boy’s system to go, no longer do we live in an era where men who look like Roy Moore have sole authority and govern our nation without checks and balances. Because of the good ole boys club, too many men have gotten away with assaulting girls and young women, in Jerry Sandusky and Dennis Hastert case it was young boys. To protect men who knowingly harm teenage girls and young men is disgusting-the good ole boys club have no place in our society in 2017.

Recap: just last month Donald Trump argued with black athletes stating, “get this son of a bitch off the field.” Yet, Trump has not taken to Twitter and stated anything about Roy Moore and his sexual misconduct against young women and teenage girls. However, we should not be surprised Donald Trump would have no comment on a serious issue, especially one about sexual misconduct since he is a sexual predator. Donald Trump’s silence on this matter illustrates his place on issues and is an example of the actions of being part of the good ole boys club. They are quiet when serious accusations arise about misconduct, they give illogical explanations on behalf of the men they are protecting, they often blame the victim and side with their member. It is unnerving the good ole boys club will go to great lengths to protect each other, although they have knowledge of the disgusting behavior. This is what is taking place with Roy Moore, just today the Republican executive committee voted to stand behind Roy Moore. In 2017, we are literally debating whether a child molester should be elected to the U.S. Senate.

There should be no debate about if Roy Moore should serve in the U.S. Senate, the answer is NO. Roy Moore and the good ole boys club is a disgrace to our society; to knowingly standby and protect a man who has harmed teenage girls is callous. In addition, for our nation to really have this kind of debate illustrates how fragmented our democracy has become. The good ole boys club is equally responsible for the chaos in the Roy Moore issue because for centuries they have protected men like him and continue to do so. What’s more, by protecting these men, the good ole boys club is assisting in promoting behavior that has no place in our society and in our government. According to Slate, “but his open lawlessness has been on display for decades.” If Roy Moore lawlessness was on display for decades he should have never been elected twice to the Alabama Supreme court or have support running for Senate. Sidebar: men like Roy Moore tend to have a lawlessness record for decades, somehow they always climb to positions of power. The good ole boys club no longer have a place in America and in our society.
