NO HEALTH CARE FOR POOR PEOPLE
Due to the failure of the GOP to pass any of their legislation to repeal the ACA, Donald Trump signed an executive order to end subsidies that would help the poor. Healthcare has been the dominant issue for the GOP for all of 2017, the GOP tried to create legislation to end the ACA, but failed. Sidebar: every legislation the GOP proposed affected the elderly and poor-kicking millions of people off health care and further damaging the healthcare market. The GOP could not pass any health law because they did not have the votes and reports from the CBO stated the laws would have a negative impact on states. In the most recent attempt with the Graham-Cassidy bill, if this legislation would have passed-funding for health coverage would have turned into block grants and vouchers for states, many blue states would have lost funding and patients with pre-existing conditions would go back to paying higher premiums and being turned down for health coverage. With the incessant need to reverse president Obama legacy and his policies-Donald Trump went to extreme measures to sign an executive order to further sabotage the ACA.
“For eight years the GOP had the opportunity to create a better health law and they failed. For all of 2017 the GOP controlling both houses of Congress failed to pass any health law.”
According to ABC News, “the cost-sharing reduction payments,” worth an estimated $7 billion this year, are intended to reduce out-of-pocket costs for low-income Americans on Obamacare.” Every attempt to repeal and replace the ACA, the CBO reported how economically bad the proposed legislation will damage the healthcare market and push millions of low-income and elderly citizens off health care. Donald Trump executive action on cutting the subsidies to help low-income citizens prove to our nation and the world his inability to understand the basic need of healthcare. Besides the executive order to cut subsidies for the ACA affecting millions of innocent poor people, this decision will also affect the low-income supporters of Donald Trump. Moreover, this extreme measure illustrates how desperate the GOP is to sabotage the ACA instead of fixing the law to make it work.
“Donald Trump executive order on cutting to subsidies to help low-income citizens prove to our nation and the world his inability to understand the basic need of healthcare.”
The two groups gravely affected by this terrible decision are the elderly and poor. Every policy decision made to cut the benefits of social programs, it is the poor and elderly who get the short end of the stick-they are the ones who need these programs. We are in bad times when the U.S. president signs an executive order that hurts poor people and pushes his party to pass damaging legislation. America is the only industrialized country without health care. With all the taxes we the people pay, this is one issue our government should improve on. It is disturbing the “greatest country” has failed to follow and learn from other nations on providing universal health care.
