Throughout history, the GOP has arguments they always use which resonates with their base and have helped the party win elections. A couple of these arguments or the popular arguments for the GOP are we the people have the right to make choices, have individual freedoms and not have government interference in our lives. The other popular argument is Democrats love giving away free stuff such as universal healthcare and SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program) social programs people need in order survive. There is a need for the “free stuff” because we have people in America who cannot afford the basic necessities of life something the GOP does not seem to understand. These arguments among many others the GOP no longer have because we can see their agenda and policies is not reflected in what is best for we the people and our nation.
“If you are paying close attention, the GOP agenda is not reflective of what is best for we the people and our nation.”
Freedom, choices and less government interference are one of the arguments the GOP loves to make. It is the foundation of their base and party, however their policies and legislation are opposite of their argument. The right to unionize is an individual freedom and choice, the right to protest is an individual freedom and choice. However, since 2008 until 2017 state legislatures and the federal government has passed laws which prohibit individuals from forming unions which are needed to protect workers. The GOP have also passed and supported laws making it illegal to protest which is a constitutional right. When passing laws that prohibit the freedom and rights of people, the GOP no longer can use the argument of fighting for freedom and choices when they are stripping them away.
“When passing laws that prohibit the freedoms and rights of people, the GOP no longer can use the argument of fighting for freedom and choices when they are stripping them away.”
The GOP rails against healthcare, especially for women. If you recall early in 2017, there were 13 old white GOPPERS who held a discussion on women’s health without women being in the room. Furthermore, listening to the Herman Cain show on September 15, 2017, he stated: “healthcare decisions should be in the hands of the individuals, parents, and families, not the government.” Yet, for many years the GOP has attempted to take away the choice of healthcare decisions from women and is on the side of for profit healthcare which is not in the best interest of our nation or the people.
“Yet for many years the GOP has attempted to take away the choice of healthcare decisions from women.”
Wasteful government spending, being a fiscal conservative is a pride and joy argument of the GOP. However, with the rescinding of DACA and this border wall, being a fiscal conservative is another argument the GOP no longer have. First, the nonsense border wall is a clear example of wasting taxpayers dollars. The hardworking people who relocate to the U.S. for a better life are less of a threat than the angry white guys who marched with tiki torches. The rescinding of DACA will cost the U.S. $430 billion dollars over 10 years which will make our nation not economically secure.
These are arguments the GOP has lost forever because we are witnessing first hand how they are not reflective of their base and damages our nation credibility. Furthermore, the GOP lost these arguments because they are putting self-interest, politics, and party before the nation and the people.
